Workers planting and staking young trees on a new development

Local knowledge

New building on old woodland

Freeport has grown quickly, and most of that growth has happened on ground that was pine woodland not long ago. That produces a very particular set of jobs. Builders clear a pad and leave a fringe of pines that were never meant to stand alone, and a pine that grew in a stand has a thin trunk and a high crown because it never needed to be sturdy. Left on the edge of a new lot with wind on it, those are the ones that come down.

So a lot of our Freeport work is assessment as much as removal: which of the remaining trees are worth keeping, which are going to be a problem in three years, and which can be reduced rather than taken out. We would rather tell you a tree is fine than remove it.

The other half is clearing — lots, fence lines and back sections of larger parcels — plus the debris that comes with a new house: offcuts, packaging, pallets and the pile the builder said they would take and did not.

Questions

Freeport — common questions

The builder left a few pines on my lot. Should they stay?

It depends on the tree. Pines that grew inside a stand are tall and thin because they never had to stand alone, and once the trees around them are gone they can struggle with wind. Some are fine, some are not, and it needs looking at rather than guessing.

Do you clear building lots?

Yes, it is one of the main things we do in Freeport. Cleared to whatever line you need with the material taken off site.

How do you price land clearing?

By area, how dense it is and what has to leave the site. It is an on-site estimate every time — photographs do not tell you enough about acreage.

Will you take construction debris the builder left?

Yes. Offcuts, packaging, pallets and general leftovers, cleared out once the trades are finished.

Do you grind the stumps too?

We can, and it is cheaper done at the same visit as the removal than as a separate trip later.

What payment do you take?

Card, cash, Cash App and Venmo, with financing available on larger jobs.
