Tree Trimming
Tree trimming in Bay, Walton, Gulf & Okaloosa County
Pruning that improves a tree’s health, shape and safety — not just a haircut. Deadwood out, structure kept, done at the right time of year.
What’s Included
Trimming done properly
Bad pruning does damage that takes years to undo. Topping a tree, over-thinning a canopy or stripping a palm too hard all weaken it permanently.
Deadwood Removal
Dead, dying and broken limbs taken out. These are what come down in the next storm and what let decay into the trunk.
Crown Thinning
Selective removal to let wind and light through. Done right this reduces storm load. Done wrong it makes a tree weaker, not stronger.
Clearance Pruning
Limbs off roofs, gutters, driveways, fence lines and power drops. The routine work that prevents expensive problems.
Structural Shaping
Correcting form on younger trees so they grow with good structure rather than needing heavy work in ten years.
We Never Top Trees
Topping — cutting the crown back to stubs — is the single most damaging thing done to trees. We won’t do it, and we’ll explain the alternative.
Full Cleanup
Everything we cut is hauled away and the ground raked. No brush pile left behind.
Timing
When to trim on the Gulf Coast
Timing matters more here than most places, because hurricane season sets the calendar.
Before Hurricane Season
The most valuable trim of the year. Reducing wind load and taking out weak limbs before June is far cheaper than clearing a failed tree in September.
After A Storm
Broken and hanging limbs need dealing with quickly — they’re both a hazard and an open wound for decay.
Palms Are Different
Palms need far less taken than people assume. Over-pruned palms are weaker and slower to recover. We trim them to what the tree actually needs.
Regular Beats Reactive
Trees trimmed on a cycle cost less over time than trees left until something has to be removed.

Questions
Tree trimming FAQ
How often should trees be trimmed?
It varies by species, age and position. Many mature hardwoods are fine every three to five years; palms and trees over a roof usually need attention more often. We’ll tell you what yours actually needs rather than selling you a schedule.
What does tree trimming cost?
It depends on size, how many trees, access and how much comes off. Send photos and we’ll give you a firm written price at no charge.
Will trimming make my tree safer in a hurricane?
Correct thinning reduces wind load and removes limbs likely to fail, so yes — done properly. Done badly it can make a tree more vulnerable, which is why we won’t top trees.
Can you trim palms?
Yes, and palms need a genuinely different approach from hardwoods. The common mistake is taking too much. One of our customers had neglected palms and we trimmed them back and explained how to keep them healthy.
Do you clean up afterwards?
Always. Everything we cut is hauled away and the ground raked before we leave.
When is the best time of year?
For storm preparation, before June. Otherwise most trimming can be done year-round here — we’ll flag it if your particular tree is better left to a specific season.

“Cornerstone Properties did an excellent job trimming our palm tree, pecan tree, and other miscellaneous overgrowth. The crew was professional, efficient, and did a fantastic cleanup afterward.”
