Tree Trimming in Panama City, FL

Deadwood out, weight taken off the limbs that need it, and the structure of the tree left intact. We do not top trees.

What we find here

Most Panama City trimming is overdue, not routine

Very few of the trees we trim in Panama City are on a schedule. Far more often the owner has watched a limb grow out over the roof for several years and finally decided to do something about it, usually in June when the forecast starts mentioning names.

The other common one is post-storm deadwood. Trees that took damage in 2018 have been shedding since, and a lot of what needs coming out of a Cove live oak now is dead material that has been hanging there for a while. That is a rigging job more than a pruning job — dead limbs are brittle and you cannot let them fall where they like.

What we actually cut

Deadwooding, weight reduction, clearance

  • Deadwood. Dead and dying limbs out. This is the bulk of the safety benefit and usually the bulk of the job.
  • Weight reduction. Shortening long, heavy limbs back to a suitable growth point so there is less leverage on the union. Not stubbing them off.
  • Clearance. Lifting the canopy off a roof, a drive or a neighbour’s fence line.
  • Crossing and rubbing limbs. Wounds that never close are how decay gets in.

What we will not do is top a tree. Cutting the leaders off produces a flush of weak regrowth attached to nothing much, and in five years you have a more dangerous tree than you started with, not a safer one.

Timing

When to have it done in Panama City

Before storm season is the sensible answer, and that is when most people ring. It also means the diary is busiest between roughly May and August, so if you already know a limb needs doing, earlier is cheaper in waiting time if not in price.

Outside that, there is no bad season here for taking out deadwood. For heavier structural work on oaks, cooler months are kinder to the tree.

If the tree turns out to be past trimming, we will say so — see tree removal in Panama City.

Questions

Panama City — common questions

How much does tree trimming cost in Panama City?

It depends on size, access and how long it has been left. A single oak limb over a roof is a different job from a whole canopy that has not been touched in ten years. We give a firm price at the estimate, free, and photos let us give you a useful number faster.

Will trimming make my tree safer in a hurricane?

Removing deadwood and reducing end weight helps. Topping does the opposite. Anyone offering to “hurricane cut” a tree by stripping it back is selling you a weaker tree.

Do you clean up?

Yes. Brush is chipped, wood is hauled, and the ground is raked and blown before we leave.

Can you trim palms too?

Yes, though palms are a different job with different rules. See palm trimming in Panama City.
