North Walton is a different world from the beach. No salt, deeper soil, and trees that have had a long time to get large — mature live oaks, hickory, sweetgum and pine on properties measured in acres rather than feet. The removals here are the biggest we do anywhere, and the good news is that there is usually room to work properly, which keeps the cost down relative to the same tree on a coastal lot.
The historic part of DeFuniak Springs is the exception. Around the lake and the older streets there are very large hardwoods standing over houses that were built long after the trees were. Those are careful, slow, rigged jobs.
Out on the acreage it is clearing more than removal: fence lines, pasture edges, overgrown back sections and building sites. It is a longer drive for us than Bay County, so it is worth grouping work together if you have several things needing doing.

Do big trees cost more to remove?
Size matters, but access matters more. A very large oak with room around it can cost less than a medium pine wedged between two houses, because one can be felled and the other has to come down piece by piece.
Can you take out a large oak over my house?
Yes. That is a rigging job — dismantled from the top with every section lowered on a line. It is slower than an open fell and priced accordingly.
